VATFACS offers Scholarships for Students and Teachers

VATFACS is offering the Sharron K. Glasscock Scholarship for teachers currently teaching FACS in Virginia, who are wishing to pursue further education and training leading for leadership in our profession. The Martha Creighton and Helen Hopper Scholarships are available for students.

Teacher Scholarship
Sharron K. Glasscock Scholarship
The Sharron K. Glasscock Family and Consumer Sciences Scholarship in the amount of $1,000 will be awarded to a person meeting the following requirements:
- The applicant must be currently teaching Family and Consumer Sciences in Virginia.
- The applicant must pursuing professional development in new educational practices, technology, or current trends in Family and Consumer Sciences education.
- Teachers receiving this scholarship must agree to present knowledge gained at the annual Virginia Family and Consumer Sciences Professional Development Institute.
Student Scholarships
Helen Hopper Scholarship
The Helen Hopper Family and Consumer Sciences Scholarship in the amount of $1,000 will be awarded to a person or persons meeting the following requirements:
- A Virginia high school senior who plans to attend college with a major in Family Life Education. *
- A college student enrolled in a Family Life program.
- A person pursuing a Masters Degree in a Family Life program, who plans to teach the subject.
- If no applicant qualifies under categories 1, 2, or 3 above, the annual award funds may be made available to the Family and Consumer Sciences Division of the State Department of Education for workshops or other presentations of Family Life Education.
- If none of the above options are used, an area or county group of Family and Consumer Sciences teachers may request the annual funds for use in workshops, programs, or other programs or projects on Family Life Education.
Martha Creighton
The Martha Creighton Family and Consumer Sciences Scholarship in the amount of $1,000 will be awarded to a person or persons meeting the following requirements:
- A Virginia high school senior who plans to attend college with a major in Family Life Education. *
- A college student enrolled in a Family Life program.
- A person pursuing a Masters Degree in a Family Life program, who plans to teach the subject.
